shall i close it now?
why not erase the phantoms that haunt my dreams?
why not forget the thorned path of silent screams?
yet something holds me back, maybe a silken thread
or maybe my unsaid fascination with the walking dead
isn't the box a mirror? the curated chaos of my identity
a mirror to the soul reflecting every scar
a mirror to the battles fought near and far
the stories of blues, the stories of trembling tones
the stories etched in marrow and in my bones.
"blessed are the forgetful", what they happily preach
but amnesia's a skill that i cannot reach
to close the box, wanting to forget the gloom
won't it be to dismantle my steadily built tomb?
and i fear normalcy, i fear being totally well
i fear this way losing all the stories i could tell.
for the box holds not just the grief, but also the hope
for the box holds not just the sorrow, but the strength to cope
the strength that holds the key to pain's release
the strength that whispers, "sorrows someday cease".

@FernsAndFirelight This is breathtakingly profound. The imagery of the box as both a mirror and a tomb, a place of both torment and identity, is stunning. The juxtaposition of grief and hope, sorrow and strength makes this piece so powerful. The lines about fearing normalcy—fearing that healing might erase the stories—hit especially deep, capturing the paradox of pain as both a burden and a muse. The rhythm flows like a quiet contemplation, each thought unraveling with a melancholic grace. Absolutely beautiful and deeply resonant poem, Suu <3
