Inertia
Bones are gears
grinding in their sockets
if I stop, they’ll crack the axle.
The earth’s spin
is the only suture
holding marrow to meaning.
A pause, and the machine
unspools:
femur through hip
skull from spine—
Planet stalls,
and we all become shrapnel
of our own velocity.
Keep moving.
Even rust
knows better
than to let the body
believe in stillness.
(Spin or
fracture.
Spin or
burst.)
@azurePond I'm not great at understanding some poems, sorry 😕 but another very creative poem by the one and only great pond💖💖 to me this poem tells me to keep going, to never give up 💖 thanks for sharing this with us 💖
@Tinywhisper11 No worries at all! Poems don’t have to be complicated. Whatever you feel when you read it is exactly what the poem means. And yep.... this one’s all about keeping going, moving forward, and never stopping. So happy you enjoyed it, and thanks for sharing your thoughts! Thanks for the support, Tiny 🥹💖 Keep pushing forward—you’re doing amazing! 💪💖
@azurePond
I am so very sorry I have not been around to compliment your awesome poetry, for it surely deserves heaps and heaps of praise, and this piece is no exception.
It has a sublime elegance that contrasts so vividly with the stark and visceral imagery. The juxtaposition of the biological against the mechanical, and the macro vs the micro is artful. Amazingly creative but so sad at the same time. The allusion to the ceasing of momentum as being a loss of control and descent into destruction is captured so magnificently and is so very upsetting at the same time. There is an absence of humanistic attitude that feels like distress masquerading as detached analysis.
The fifth stanza feels like it is encapsulating a burned out resignation. Anthropomorphising rust as a symbol of entropy that somehow reflects a universal 'knowledge' that we move or we die.
The last two lines, 'Spin or fracture' 'spin of burst', seem laden with a hopelessness that feels inevitable. They have an inexorably melancholy to them that makes the heart ache. It is a fantastic poem, but makes me wonder.
I hope you are well and happy. I have missed reading your works and sharing engaging messages on poetry and other things too. As always, I salute the awesome skills of the esteemed AzurePond.
@BastionKnight Thank you so much Knight — truly! no need to apologize at all. I really appreciate you taking the time to share such thoughtful reflections. I was taking a break too. I’m doing okay and I hope you are too. Your words mean a great deal to me — more than I can fully express. It’s always a joy to hear from you — both for your insight and for the kindness behind it. Thank you again for being such a generous reader and a writer.
@azurePond
Hope you know you are awesome and that people care about you. Your poetry is inspirational, entertaining, and amazing. Sorry id I am a bit gushy ...blame it on the morphine. Your poems will keep me distracted, as the hospital room. Is otherwise very dull. I hope you are okay?( I hope nothing I unpleasant spurred your taking a break?) Have a great day, and I ow that you are respected, appreciated and happily thought about
@BastionKnight Thank you..Thank you Knight Thank you so much... WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU?!! WHY U IN A HOSPITAL?
@azurePond
It is all okay. I had spinal surgery yesterday, and am now hooked up to various bleeping, rumbling, pulsing, dripping, and thrumming machines. I did not say anything previously as I would not wish to ever say anything that might upset or worry anyone. Perhaps this is too much of an overshare? If so, I blame the morphine *smiles*
@BastionKnight It started out as a short story...Now it has 3 chapters.. Hospital reading material - link is given below
@azurePond
It might be my addled and sleep deprived brain, but I do not see a link? If I click on your profile pic, which shirt story is it? (I am certain to read them all but am keen to know which you are recommending first)
@BastionKnight Short story but with chapters
@azurePond
Sooooooooo awwwwwesome. Your characterisation is excellent. I love the hard-boiled, film noir-meets-Dexter personification of Cain. There character is so enthralling in a morbidly awful way...one cannot help but be drawn in even though the character throws up so many red flags. He is written with such a strong voice, potent but not clichéd. I really do admire your writing versatility. I am making my way through your chapters but have to keep rereading (partly because I like too, and partly because my painkiller dulled brain keeps making me drift, and I do not want to miss anything). I do much hope you write this all up into a manuscript for publishing. We need AzurePond novels!!!
@BastionKnight Thank you so much — that truly means a lot to me. I’m so glad Cain’s voice came through. I actually hate that character.... he’s the opposite of everything I stand for. So when I write from his POV I’m really cautious not to let my own conscience slip in. Cain is subtle, charming and a performer — he makes you believe whatever he says is true even when you know it’s morally wrong...even when you have strong biases against it. His biases will flow through you under the radar. He literally gaslights you through his narration. But you can still see the cracks — in the way he spins his story — the narcissism, the misogyny and that PTSD ... all bleeding through. and I love that it came through 😁... By the way..I hope you are getting better. Take care. *sending you get well soon vibes *
@azurePond
He is the sort of villainous character that I find the most interesting, as one knows that we should be repelled yet their character and egoistic 'charm' draws us in. You write him so magnificently and made him so real. I can imagine getting into his headspace is not a comfortable thing to do, but it makes for a truly amazing bit of creative writing. Your use of language both in the characters own words as well as the descriptions and actions is so innovative and unusual that it makes it pop. The pacing is spot on, and I was hooked from the first couple of lines. I do not say any of this as false flattery, for I mean every word. You are a very, very talented writer and a delightfully interesting mind too.
@BastionKnight Wow, thank you so much, Knight! You're absolutely right — stepping into his mindset wasn’t always comfortable, but exploring that darker complexity was also strangely compelling.
And the pacing and the words — I’m a people watcher (not a stalker… again, just to clarify) But I’ve noticed that different people think and speak at different paces and each individual has their own vocabulary or tone in how they perceive and express things. I tried to mimic that. Granted, all my characters kind of use the same words, but their execution style is different. I was aiming for that so I’m really glad it came through!
