Rain
Why do we hide from the rain
who nurtures our plants
who nurtures our brain?
Is it the cold sting of water
the drool of the grey?
Perhaps we cower
from the things that
naturally occur
water this plain
without needing to be man made.
Well, I’ll ask you this,
do you run from the sun?
Do you fear the tremendous heat
and wear your hats and cheat
while still bowing to this star,
kissing it’s universal feet?
It may be either way,
when we are not granted
the world’s treasure chest
at our own choice,
we become indifferent to this place
and view it off as best
to stay inside, safe.
And yet still,
we stem from the whirlwind
who gave us breath
we pick our self
from the lighting bolt
who flashes without choice
and we speak from the thunder
who booms through the land
and we cry with the rain
who is cold, yet holds your hand.
@twerp Hello prewt!
Your poem is beautiful. I absolutely love the way you captured the tension between reluctance and fear of nature and the way we accept certain parts of it. This line stood out to me "We stem from the whirlwind who gave us breath", for some reason it reminds me of a gentle giant bending down and giving out a helping hand while people shove it away.
@twerp Hello Twerp,
I agree with Heather, the rhyming is amazing! Halfway through, I found myself reading it out loud in rhythm—like a rap. That’s how good this is!
Also, beautiful—like a quiet revelation woven into words. It’s true, isn’t it? We fear what we cannot command, what falls upon us unbidden. Yet the same forces we shrink from are the ones that shape us.
Your last lines hit deep—how we are born of the very chaos we resist. The rain, the thunder, the sun—we are all echoes of the wild, yet we seek shelter from it.
Another masterpiece from Twerp. Thank you for this.
Sincerely,
Azure
