The Hollow Hour
The sky hung low like a grieving veil,
Misty as breath upon a broken glass,
Trembling trees whispered in exile,
And time slipped slow through hour’s morass.
The mirror knew me not today,
A pale figment, eyes dull with ash,
I wandered halls of thought in gray,
Each step a ghost’s reluctant pass.
The world, a room where voices fail,
Where laughter curdles into frost,
Each face a moon behind a veil,
Each greeting gained was something lost.
The body moved, a husk, a shell,
Wading through an unseen mire,
I spoke in smoke, I dreamed in knell,
And warmth withdrew like evening fire.
But still, beneath the silence' dome,
A sparrow sang within the thorn,
Though battered, bent, and far from home,
The heart recalled it once was born.
So I shall wait, as twilight bends,
For dawn to stir the sullen tree,
For even sorrow slowly mends,
And what is lost still seeks to be.
@ZenArashi Zen, so happy to see you back with another beautiful piece! I listened to your audio too—there’s something really special about hearing your words in your own voice. This one is stunning.... grief wrapped in silk and shadow. The closing lines especially stayed with me: “what is lost still seeks to be.” There’s such quiet hope beneath the ache. Thank you for sharing this.
@azurePond
Awe, thanks Azure for your lovely comment. Yeah, I was occupied with my therapy that I wasn’t spending much time writing a new poem. Life has been an emotional roller coaster but hope is still something I yearn for and I hope your days have been lovely. 😊
@ZenArashi Aww I’m really glad to hear from you . Therapy is important and I’m proud of you for making space for it even if it means stepping away from writing for a bit. Roller coasters are tough but the fact that you still hold onto hope says so much about your strength, Zen. I am good thanks for your thoughts. I’m wishing you gentler days ahead—and whenever the next poem comes, it’ll be worth the wait. Sending good energy your way, always 🌼✨
