Healthline: Know the Code - Gym Etiquette for Every Situation
“In fact, there are some universal do’s and don’ts to the gym environment, and they’re simply based on mutual respect. Even if you feel intimidated by the pandemonium, you can feel confident that you’re doing the right thing if you adhere to certain principles.
The first thing you want to know is whether your particular gym has its own set of rules and acquaint yourself with those. Reading the signage posted throughout your fitness facility will give you not just clues but actual instruction.
Many locations have their own unique rules around certain behaviors, but you can be sure you’re flying right if you adhere to certain set guidelines”
My Takeaways From This Article (Unspoken Rules of Gymming)
The gym can be a very daunting place for beginners or people wanting to start working out at one. But there are certain rules that gym goers follow that you can learn right now and not have to worry about seeming out of place at the gym!
These set advice include: pick up and de-rack after yourself (after you use a machine its considerate to leave it empty for the next person to put weight on), don’t be overly distracting like playing music out loud or talking on your phone, respect people’s workout ranges (don’t be a reason someone has to stop their set midway!) and don’t hoard multiple weights!
Sometimes when using machines people will ask “how many sets left”, which means how many more times you’re going to use the machine before moving on. Additionally, sometimes they will ask if “they can work in” which means alternating the usage of the machine when you’re resting. It’s okay to say you’re uncomfortable working out, but otherwise it’s a great way to make a friend at the gym!
Remember that the gym is full of people who know that they want to work to be better. No one was born fit and proportional, hard work is what helps you get there. So don’t worry about judgment, gym culture is a great place to find like-minded individuals who are striving for healthier and better versions of themselves!

@sunnyWriting4806 I agree with you that the gym can be less intimidating when you remember everyone is there to better themselves. Honestly, people are probably too worried about themselves to look at other people! I think a good way to go more confidently is to go with a friend or listen to some fun music! The gym doesn't have to be a scary place!! ❤️
