Neuroscience News: Impact of College Personality Course on Personality Understanding
“Summary: Students who participate in psychology classes focused on personality traits show improvements in dispositional intelligence, allowing them to better understand how the behaviors of others relate to their personalities.”
“That was the finding of a Tulane University study that looked at the connection between the introductory personality course and a student’s dispositional intelligence.”
“The study, published in Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in Psychology, a journal of the American Psychological Association, showed that students who took the class showed marked increases in dispositional intelligence from the beginning of the class to the end.”
“...dispositional intelligence is basically an understanding of another person’s personality traits. Analyzing how well students acquire dispositional intelligence poses important implications for students in a variety of academic, social and professional settings.”
“Researchers surveyed 19 Tulane undergraduates who had completed Introduction to Psychology as a prerequisite.”
“The students were assessed on their knowledge of personality psychology on the first day of class and the last day of class in the 2019 fall semester, using a trait induction subcomponent of dispositional intelligence. Students’ scores of dispositional intelligence significantly increased from the first day of class to the last day of class.”
Based on the findings of this study, the authors suggest that students’ personality education is vital for their academic journey and professional career. In addition, the authors said, understanding personalities will increase individual interactions with classmates and coworkers over time, which could minimize conflict in work settings and help students to be more adaptable and versatile in their careers.

My take:
I can tell you just even in my experience that understanding others' personalities goes a long way in our personal and professional lives. I feel like anything that can help prepare college students in this vein would be of an immense benefit.
And as a question for you all:
Have you had the opportunity to take any psychology classes (or classes at all) that focused on and helped your understanding of personality?

@sereneSunset26 I never had the chance to take a course on personality, but I would if I had the chance! I think our personalities shape a lot of how we think and interact with the world, so understanding them more would be really beneficial and I think could help us with decisions about ourselves. I think it could also teach us a lot about who we would best get along with!! It's so interesting!

I would definitely recommend it!! I ended up taking courses on personality both for my field of study and as electives. And one thing I learned is that our personalities are as unique as far fingerprints. Both in terms of just uniqueness in itself, as well as the number of personalities out there in the world.
@sereneSunset26 I'd love to know more! Maybe I'll send you a message!!
@sereneSunset26 I've had the opportunity to take psychology classes and the things I've learnt about certain personality traits are priceless. It's a subject that I'm sure will prove useful in the future especially since society functions on the success of interpersonal relationships.

I really liked what you said here. Because, yes, interpersonal relationships are the bedrock of our society. And with so many personalities out there, it really pays (in all senses of the word) to know how to interact with others.
@sereneSunset26 So true!

I'm actually taking an upper division psychology course right now that focuses on abnormal psychology. I've also taken a Psychology 101 back in my earlier days. I can tell you that psychology gave me so many insights on how my mind and thought processes work. Often finding words or phrase that describe what you're feeling or going through is the best way to start understanding and working with it. That's pretty much what psychology did, gave me so many different ways to describing how I and others feel.

I really liked what you said here. Because I feel like so much of our success in this life, both with ourselves and with others, comes down to understanding feelings and how to communicate as well as work through them.
