Thrive Global: Aging, Health, and Perspective

"Does life get harder as we get older, or really, is it a matter of how we see things?
I believe it is a little of both, to be honest. As we age, our bodies do not necessarily perform the way they used to. Hormones, metabolism changes, joints start hurting (knees, back, fingers, hands, ankles) where it used to be easy to get a good night’s sleep, often we are faced with pain or worries, or medication that can leave us feeling restless.
It doesn’t have to be that way if we watch our health, but of course, some diseases are unavoidable, most are and can be managed with medication and lifestyle modification.
Mindset does play a really big role in how we perceive life. Age does give us wisdom, we learn what battles to choose and what to simply let go of. We are taught through life lessons that there are blessings in everything, and we also get to the point where we can tell others to take a flying leap and not care.
If life were easy, we’d never learn anything.
If we’ve never faced trials, we’re not going to build character and resilience. If we have never had to make tough choices, our thinking process never really develops.
Life can be hard, but it is our choice if we choose to remain to see it that way."

Reflection:
What are your thoughts on the aging process? Are you ‘terrified’ of aging? Or are you looking forward to it?
*I’m terrified of aging only due to the health factor. Other than that, I’m quite looking forward to the wisdom that comes with all the experiences that are ahead*

@comfortableNight4463 I think aging is scary to me because I don't want to lose my older loved ones. I think we sometimes forget our parents are getting older too. It makes me sad to think about it.
@fruityPond7887 Same! I'm so terrified of grieving. I don't think I'll ever be prepared for that part.
@comfortableNight4463 Me too. I don't want to live in this world without my mom ever. 😞
@fruityPond7887 Same! Just thinking about it makes me panic.

I'm also terrified of aging since I do have death anxiety. But I have come to terms that it's a natural process and I will try to do my best to accept it and to live a good life that I can be proud of when I'm 90 years old and looking back at my life. But aging is scary and I'm scared of the health risks that comes with it. I loved this article! Thank you so much for posting this and making me reflect on this topic!
@professionalVision2624 You're welcome. I agree, I'm anxious about how I will pass away but I've accepted that it's inevitable and there's nothing we can do to stop it.

I think being anxious about what will happen when our time comes is to some degree a normal and healthy mindset to have, after all it’s a very abstract and hard concept to grasp. And like you say, the best way to do it is to simply accept that it will happen to everyone sooner or later and that it's the natural way of life and death. An endless cycle of ends and new beginnings <3
