“‘There are some studies that suggest that the start or end of daylight saving time (DST) could have an impact on sleep — more so springing forward than falling backward,. Dr. Harneet Walia, a sleep disorders specialist at the Cleveland Clinic, told Healthline in a previous interview.

Changing the clocks just 1 hour can wreak havoc on your alertness, heart, and ability to drive safely.

The switch to daylight saving time is large enough to put your internal clock — circadian rhythm — out of sync with the world around you, with a whole host of ripple effects.

``Daylight saving time change could provide a wonderful opportunity to make sleep a priority,’ said Walia, ‘and set up routines, in terms of sleep-wake cycle and just getting into nice habits.’”

My Takeaways From This Article

  1. First and foremost a friendly reminder that the Daylight Savings Time is coming this Sunday March 13, 2022! Of course in the countries that participate in the 1 hour change through their day. A lot of people, such as myself in the past, often find this day an unpleasant surprise when they wake up to find that they’re either late to go somewhere or they feel extra tired waking up to their alarm.

  2. Of course there are many ways that we can lose our sleep including jet lags and unexpected events, but this article shows how even a 1 hour sleep loss can have devastating consequences. Sleep is really important! In many aspects but foremost to our health.

  3. Daylight savings is a great way to train and be conscious of our sleep discipline! What better way to use Daylight savings as a way to keep conscious of our sleep goals and make that time adjustment ourselves. Conquering such small adjustments can lead to better sleep habits which can overall improve our lives in every way!

@sunnyWriting4806 I definitely was not excited to lose an hour this weekend. I think it really affects my sleep because my sleep schedule already stinks so I'm exhausted most of the time, but now I'm really exhausted! I think I can definitely work on my sleep schedule by getting to bed earlier, not looking at my phone or the TV before bed, and maybe turning on some nice music to sleep to!
