May 28th - World Hunger Day
World Hunger Day seeks to inspire people in both the developed and developing worlds to show their solidarity and support to enable many more to end their own hunger and poverty and make the journey to self-reliance.
It alsohope to encourage even more organisations to work in partnership with each other and with the women, men and children in the developing world who seek to bring about a sustainable end to their own hunger and poverty.
Thankfully, progress is happening and the number of people living in extreme poverty has been halved since 1990.
The creators of this day, Hunger Project UK, aredelivering ground breaking results in full support of the Millennium Development Goals, mobilising rural communities at the grassroots level. Theybelieve that ending hunger is possible when you empower people to become agents of change in their communities, lifting themselves and their families out of hunger and poverty sustainably. I definitely find this to be an important post and more people should read up on it!
Thankfully, hunger and poverty has gone down, but still it remains a prevalent problem in other countries and even in our very own!
