Mock Events: Information.

We will be starting mock events for newcomers who join our team.

This is in order to get a little bit of experience of what it's like to organise an event before doing your first event. The idea orginates from wishes to have some kind of experience before "jumping in the deep end" so to speak, as it can be quite overwhelming when one first joins.

Information on Mock Events.

→ Your event will be called "Mock Event: [Theme] Day!"

The event will be given a light-hearted theme (e.g., happiness, peace, etc) and you will create a day's event based around that.

→ You will create a sheet on the Organisers' spreadsheet.

You'll use it to put all of your planned activities, your to-do list and whatever else. This is something you will do in general, so it is very important.

→ You will organise one discussion.

This will be for any side of your choosing - teen/adult member/listener. A member of the experienced special events organisers will act as a listener interested in becoming the discussion leader. (This organiser has been pre-selected to do so) . You will be using our Discussions spreadsheet in order to do so. We use this spreadsheet both before and after.

→ You will list two+ forum threads or activities.

This will involve collecting real forum threads on 7 Cups to include in your event. You are free to create your own, however.

→ You will organise one feed activity.

You do not have to create any real feed posts, only example information for your feed post. You will also use the Collaborations spreadsheet to communicate feed activities with the Feed Team (who are aware of mock events, so no worries about possible confusion!).

→ You will send out an example Help Wanted post.

It will be posted to our Special Events Organisers Team section in the Listeners Only section. But instead of using the usual tags list, you will use the Organisers one. There will be a response form in a similar format to the usually Tags Lists for you to use and practice on.

→ On the day of your event, you will create a Main Post about the day.

This will also be posted to our Special Events Organisers Team section in the Listeners Only section (e.g., "Mock Event: March 6th - Happiness Day!"). Creating a main post is very important for events.

When will mock events happen?

Before officially joining the team, at a date that is preferably a week away from the day of the mock event - flexible around one's availability.

What's the difference between a mock event and one's first event?

The mock event will typically involve less than a real one would. In addition, for the first event, you will have a co-organiser. However, for the mock event, you will be doing this solo.

I'm not a new organiser, but I'd like to do one for practice anyway. Can I?

100%. Please let QuickJazz know and we'll arrange it together!

Does that mean I won't get any help for mock events?

Not at all, you will certainly get help. QuickJazz will be available for you to ask questions and get any kind of support you'll need in order to complete your mock event successfully!

What happens if it doesn't go well, or if I make mistakes or mess it up somehow?

This is a learning experience, not an assessment. So there are no negative consequences if anything goes wrong. You can use such things to reflect upon and think about what you might wish to do differently next time.

This mock event is to get you thinking about how to organise discussions, what kind of activities you can do or content you can include, how you can communicate with other teams and the importance of communication as an organiser.

It hopes to inspire your creativity, familiarise yourself with the different areas of 7 Cups and provide experience and knowledge in various procedures/methods of doing things and in using the spreadsheets and forums.
