Self-Harm Recovery Check-In: Wednesday, January 22nd, 2020
Hey there SHR Community,

Sorry for the many images i loved quite a few of them and felt some of them were needed especially the cute S.M.A.R.T gif then explaining what each part of that means when both planning and achieving any goals you set
What is a SMART Goal? Goals are part of every aspect of business/life and provide a sense of direction, motivation, a clear focus, and clarify importance. By setting goals for yourself, you are providing yourself with a target to aim for. A SMART goal is used to help guide goal setting. SMART is an acronym that stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timely. Therefore, a SMART goal incorporates all of these criteria to help focus your efforts and increase the chances of achieving that goal.
SMART goals are:
Specific: Well defined, clear, and unambiguous
Measurable: With specific criteria that measure your progress towards the accomplishment of the goal
Achievable: Attainable and not impossible to achieve
Realistic: Within reach, realistic, and relevant to your life purpose
Timely: With a clearly defined timeline, including a starting date and a target date. The purpose is to create urgency.
Now lets dive deeper into each area
SMART Goal – Specific
Goals that are specific have a significantly greater chance of being accomplished. To make a goal specific, the five W questions must be considered:
Who: Who is involved in this goal?
What: What do I want to accomplish?
Where: Where is this goal to be achieved?
When: When do I want to achieve this goal?
Why: Why do I want to achieve this goal?
SMART Goal – Measurable
A SMART goal must have criteria for measuring progress. If there are no criteria, you will not be able to determine your progress and if you are on track to reach your goal. To make a goal measurable, ask yourself:
How many/much?
How do I know if I have reached my goal?
What is my indicator of progress?
SMART Goal – Achievable
A SMART goal must be achievable and attainable. This will help you figure out ways you can realize that goal and work towards it. The achievability of the goal should be stretched to make you feel challenged, but defined well enough that you can actually achieve it. Ask yourself:
Do I have the resources and capabilities to achieve the goal? If not, what am I missing?
Have others done it successfully before?
SMART Goal – Realistic
A SMART goal must be realistic in that the goal can be realistically achieved given the available resources and time. A SMART goal is likely realistic if you believe that it can be accomplished. Ask yourself:
Is the goal realistic and within reach?
Is the goal reachable given the time and resources?
Are you able to commit to achieving the goal?
SMART Goal – Timely
A SMART goal must be time-bound in that it has a start and finish date. If the goal is not time constrained, there will be no sense of urgency and motivation to achieve the goal. Ask yourself:
Does my goal have a deadline?
By when do you want to achieve your goal?

1. What kinds of goals are more likely to make us motivated to achieve them?
I always try to break goals up into smaller goals, that are and seem more easy to achieve
2. What features of goal setting are important, if we want to ensure they are more likely to be successfully achieved?
I think it's important to be mindful about what goals we set, to not dreamily wish we could achieve something, but try to think in realistic ways to reach your goals
3.what goals do you have and which ones do you wish to achieve first. remember to use S.M.A.R.T as explained above?
The current goals I've set in therapy are at first pretty vague, but through tips I've received, I can do practical things to take steps towards those goals
@Madaraismyspiritanimal great job on breaking into smaller goals question 2 was asking for particular features but thats ok and the last question was more on what goals by naming them
how have you been
@CaringBrit
I've been really good actually
One of my current goals is; be less influenced by negative thoughts for example.
One of the tips I got for achieving this is; allowing myself to take steps small enough to handle
This makes something I want to achieve more accessible and I can experience positive emotions along the way to make negative ones less influential
@CaringBrit
I have a hard time setting goals. This has given me some things to think about. Thank you
Goals that we are passionate about and have a deep desire we are more more likely to accomplish. Goals that we have had time to throurally think about and break down with a wonderful plan are the goals we are compelled to accomplish. Goals take time and do not happen overnight. Baby steps are important in the path to achieving a goal.
The Features of a goal that are the hardest for me to do are the time frame and when I want to achieve a goal. I struggle with holding myself accountable for the goals I have and fail often in my goals in the past because of how harsh I am on myself.
A big goal for me right now that I want to achieve is to reduce the number of thoughts I have on self-harm and remember to take my medication. I also want to be able to heal from the pain of my past and be okay with myself. Something in the next year is to complete my degree of metaphysics and history of polytheistic cultures so I can finally open my own psychic cafe and volunteer in the prison system as a spirtual coach for pagan individuals. I can't do any of this until I better my mental health
@SolaraMoonstone98 love the answers you gave on the questions definetly well thought out goals those we are passionate about are more successful indeed
the timeframe is a very important feature its also the hardest bit for me too as we need to be realistic but sometimes might take longer than expected setting time frames is definitely the hard part for most
awesome goals you have too stick with them youll get there
