I'm doing great! I think today is gonna be awesome.

2) What things have been working for you lately?

Cups has been working for me! I'm having a good time here.

3) What things havent been working for you lately?

School isn't going so well, but I am surviving and that's what counts.

4) If you could instantly learn a new skill, what would it be?

Love this question! Hm, I would want to instantly master singing. I can't sing at all, but I love doing it!

Thank you for this, Linear ❤️

1) How are you feeling?
I'm feeling ok. I just had a semi-long talk with my therapist today, and she asked me what makes me happy. So I laughed at her, bc it was the only respons I could muster. Anyway, I don't think I have anything that I can do that directly leads me to be happy. I mean watching series makes me kinda contend and sometimes stresses me. I like writing, but I don't think it makes me happy, bc most times I'm stressing about not writing enough. So the respons was to laugh I guess.
Then she asked me what was wrong, and I kinda laughed again. Apparently I'm deflecting, when I just laugh. Who knew that?
Anyway I feel ok. I haven't worked out as much as I would like today (normally I burn trice as many calories as I eat), but it's ok. I will go for a walk later, and I will be all good again. As long as the sun is up, I can work out.

2) What things have been working for you lately?
My novel mostly. I have done a chapter in three days, so that's good. And getting to know the ppl on "my" new RPG site better. It's kinda nice, even though that place is nothing like my old site. I kinda miss it, but I know I will only get depressed if I go there again. So I will have to get used to this at some point I hope.

3) What things havent been working for you lately (if any)?
Mostly me being active and working out. Doing cardio and such. I have to work harder on doing my workouts, so I can loose weight (I'm kinda fat).

4) If you could instantly learn a new skill, what would it be? (it can be a useless but cool one to your eyes lol)
Uhm... a brand new skill or something I'm not really good at? For stuff I am not good at, I would choose singing or sign language. For stuff I have never tried, I would kinda like being good at surfing or something like that?

@LinearWaves Thank you for the hope and optimism. I started working at age 13 full time doing a mans job. And I never even went to high school. So even if it was taught in school it wouldn't have done me any good anyway. And looking back at what I know now it was borderline cult status at least. So I think I could be worse off than I am.

1. I'm feeling alright, I guess. Though this past week I haven't really been sleeping too well. I started a new shift at work where I'm working 9pm-2am every Monday night now, after working the weekend afternoon/night shifts (3/4pm-8/9pm). The good news is that it's the supervisor shift, so I'll make more money! The bad news, is that it's coinciding with my (pretty much) annual feelings of needing to cut.

So I've been going to bed around 3-4am, but when I try to sleep in, I get woken up by family members, or a phone call/text, or outside noise. That usually wakes me up around 8-9am.

2. I think coming here again and finding good quality listeners has been helping. I grew up with a family who's mindset was 'push it down and pretend it doesn't exist', so for me, slowly learning to not feel guilty about asking for help, and trying to let myself be helped, is helping. (Though it's still scary/uncomfortable)

3. Pretty much everything else. Lol I have one friend who knows I currently struggle with self-harm (I used to do it pretty much every day in high school, then stopped for about 5 years, and then last year started doing it [way less frequently, and way less amount] again). So sometimes if I'm getting really strong urges, or (what I think are) panic attacks, I try to reach out to her. But her home life isn't the greatest, and she's in a worse situation than I am, so I feel guilty and bad for asking her to help.

I don't want to be adding to anyone elses' stress, or cause someone else any pain, so I don't often ask for help, and just try to tough it out alone.

4. Oh man, there's a LOT of new skills I'd love to learn! Maybe the one I'd like to learn instantly, instead of putting in the work, would be mastering guitar or being able to draw really well. I have a guitar and am teaching myself how to play, but it's hurting my fingers a lot because I have no callouses. And for drawing, I'm pretty good at doing (2D) cartoon characters, but would love to be able to draw real, 3D people well.

@GhostGirl2

Hey Ghost ! I definitely hope you can get more sleep in the next days, hopefully it also helps handling more easily these feelings, plus working (and just everything) can definitely be much harder when lacking sleep… I dont think much can be done for outside noise, but could you maybe put something on your door to mention youre sleeping? And maybe put your phone on a plane mode or something? Unless there are important calls youre waiting for though!

Its great to hear coming on here has been helping and that youre slowly learning to open up, ask and accept help, despite it being scary and uncomfortable due to not being used to at all, I hope this can continue and hopefully with some time itll be less scary and uncomfortable! Were here for you!

I definitely get you about your friend, feeling bad and guilty for asking her for help, and just generally not wanting to add to anyone elses stress/pain. I guess its important to remember that these people who want to help care for you and want to be part of your recovery to try and help you get there, and sure sometimes theyll also go through hard times and may need to step aside for a bit while they take care of themselves, or to help from a bit further away, but that doesnt mean you have to do all the work alone as they can still be there to encourage and support you here and there!

These 2 are definitely cool skills! They take lots of practice though yeah so it would be useful and quicker to just learn them instantly, for the guitar though, arent there plectrum/pick/mediator (not sure of the term in English) to protect your hand? Or is it still hurting your fingers even when using it? (I have 0 musical knowledge lol)

Take care, thanks for checking in!

At the moment I'm into hand lettering and calligraphy. I've done quite a few things over the past week including a little something for my brother's birthday, but I don't know how he'll react. Hope it goes okay. Mind you I've got to finish it first !

Hum sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. I like to write stuff down but that doesn't really make the emotion go away. Not really a 'creative hobby' but dancing does help sometimes. I wish I had enough energy and concentration (and skill - but who cares about skill when you're having fun ?) to actually learn a whole choreography.

Exactly my thoughts on conveying emotions : I have a hard time explaining what I'm going through, I wish I could just show people. It would make my life a lot easier.

Thanks for yours answers, they are always thoughtful and I really appreciate that !

I hope he likes it too. I'm just a bit anxious because I've never done something like this for him and I can see all the flaws in what I've done. I just hope he doesn't think it's weird or crap ... I'm pretty sure he'll appreciate the attention though.

Yep ! It's mostly just me getting the energy out of my system ! But I wish that I could actually get better, small steps, small steps !

1) How are you feeling?

I'm feeling low energy. I haven't been getting much sleep lately. I feel frustrated that I don't have the energy to do what I want.

2) What things have been working for you lately?

Being persistent and sticking with the same task for twice as long as I normally would. I think it is taking me longer to warm up, but if I stick with it then I get into a flow and end up having more success.

3) What things havent been working for you lately (if any)?

Being too narrow-minded in my goals. Things aren't turning out how I envisioned and that is frustrating, so I have to remind myself to stay open to new information that might conflict with my existing information.

4) If you could instantly learn a new skill, what would it be? (it can be a useless but cool one to your eyes lol)

I would learn computer science and programming at a higher level.

Hey there Brynn ! Im sorry to hear youre feeling low on energy due to lacking sleep recently, that can definitely be really frustrating when it makes you unable to do what you want. I hope you can get more of it soon, do you have issues falling asleep if you dont mind me asking?

This is great that youre being so persistent! It can feel discouraging when things take us longer than they normally would but staying persistent and not paying attention to the time its taking us is definitely the (one at least!) key to success! Ive recently watched a Ted-talk about getting into your flow, so as to be really into the task and efficient, and the person mentioned identifying what gets us focused (is it learning something new? Is it working around others? Is it doing something that has purpose? And so on) and trying to put it to good use for other tasks, for example if I know learning something new is something that I really enjoy, then I could focus on the fact Ill be learning something new when doing a dreading task that I wouldnt have seen as learning in itself, so as to get into my flow. (I think this is badly explained lol, sorry for that, my coffee hasnt produced its effects for now, heres the link though if youd like to check it out and understand it properly)

It can definitely be challenging when things dont turn out how we saw them, I get thats how it often works though, I mean Im definitely not where I thought I would be but that is also because opportunities happened so in a way its very positive and we sure have to stay open to new information as they can represent new opportunities!

That would be such a cool skill to master! Do you do some programming already?

Take care, thanks for checking in!

Thank you for the thoughtful response. Yes, I have insomnia so I have a hard time falling asleep. I will check out the ted talk. And yes, I do have some low-level programming skills, but I don't understand the theory behind it very well so I get stuck pretty often.

1) How are you feeling?

I am good, my 17th birthday is tommorow so I have that to look forward to. But because of Covid I won't get my license.

2) What things have been working for you lately?

Cups. I finished my final day of my internship today which is crazy to think about.

3) What things havent been working for you lately(if any)?

school. I still have this week and next week left of school and I am not motivated to do school work.

4) If you could instantly learn a new skill, what would it be? (it can be a useless but cool one to your eyes lol)
This sounds extreme but I would love to learn how to do open heart surgery. I mean I am only 17 but still it's sooooo cool. I have the knowledge and have taken enough classes to have a lot of medical knowledge but I obviously haven't been able to practice my skills in the OR yet. Plus open heart surgery is the best skill to have, not practical in everyday life but still a great skill to have nonetheless.

Yay for your final day of internship within 7cups! How has it been?

I get how school work must be really hard, as finding motivation to do it due to the situation… Its good though that theres not much of it left though, its like seeing the finish line and you only have a final sprint to do, I hope you can put in some last bits of motivation!

Wow that would sure be an awesome skill! Surgery kinda seems to me like real magic! Are you planning on studying medicine later?

I have trouble with staying asleep and nightmares. I've started to keep a journal of the nightmares to share with my therapist. I have sleeping pills that my psychiatrist prescribed. I just don't want to become dependent on them so I don't take them every night. Sometimes when I take them the nightmares still come.
