Self-Harm Recovery Daily Check-in: Thursday January 9, 2020

User Profile: rebecca947

Hello, everyone! I hope your day is going well, or that your day has gone well.

So, I wanted to start something new with my check-ins. I've got a book that asks some really good questions that I answer every day. I'm hoping you can all join me every time I post a check-in here (for now, every Wednesday and Thursday).

1) How are you today? Is there anything you'd like to share with us?

2) Today's question is- What are your favourite things to do when you're alone?

3) I just did a Yoga with Adriene video, and she asked a really good question that I'd like to ask you all as well. If I were to say "Blanket yourself in love", how do you want to respond? What does that make you feel?

Take care, everyone. I hope the questions make you ponder about self-care and self-love. xx

1) How are you today? Is there anything you'd like to share with us?

I'm good, feeling rested. Still a bit sick with a cold, but nothing major

2) Today's question is- What are your favourite things to do when you're alone?

Draw, listen to music, whistle or song along

3) I just did a Yoga with Adriene video, and she asked a really good question that I'd like to ask you all as well. If I were to say "Blanket yourself in love", how do you want to respond? What does that make you feel?

I'm not sure, cause I'm not really sure what love means to me. I often associate it with casually liking something, like loving food or something entertaining. So I guess, in response I would want to surround myself with things I enjoy.

Hi Madara, I'm happy to hear that you're good! I hope you feel better soon and recover. The cold is never fun. Drawing! I wish I was good at that. I tried drawing a self-portrait for one of the prompts and I drew myself as an egghead by accident. I love that you can draw!

That's a good response. Love can mean different things for different people.

Thanks for checking in! <3 xx

@rebecca947

The basic shape of the head is an upside down egg, always a good base to start with if you're having trouble. I'm not the best at faces myself, the expressions never come out quite right. But that's ok, I'm having fun with it regardless 😋

1) How are you today? Is there anything you'd like to share with us?

So far I'm not too bad. It's my moms birthday today so I made waffles for breakfast, they were really good. My scars have kind of been bothering me lately. I hate looking at them, I feel like I've improved so much over the past year (even though there have been a lot of set backs) and seeing my scars just makes me feel... I dont know. It makes me feel like I cant move on I guess, does that make sense? I'm not great at explaining my feelings.

2) Today's question is- What are your favourite things to do when you're alone?

Probably just reading, maybe with a nice cup of tea.

3) I just did a Yoga with Adriene video, and she asked a really good question that I'd like to ask you all as well. If I were to say "Blanket yourself in love", how do you want to respond? What does that make you feel?

Thats such a nice, warm image. It makes me feel warm and soft inside.

@fairmindedRaspberries1389

Heya, Raspberries! I'm glad to hear that you're not feeling too bad, and I hope your mum had a good birthday! Oh wow, did you make waffles by scratch? Sounds like a lovely breakfast, especially when it's prepared for you by someone else! You spoil your mum!

It makes a lot of sense and maybe a familiar feeling to many people in my opinion. I'm proud and glad that you acknowledge how far you've come, and despite the challenges, you pushed through and persevered. Never forget that inner strength you possess. Seeing your scars are a fact. How you feel about them and how you perceive them are subjective and can change over time with your thoughts and attitude towards them, right? How would you prefer to feel or think when you look at your scars? How can we get there?

Reading sounds super nice and relaxing. I don't put aside nearly as much time as I should for pure reading. What genre do you like?

I totally agree it's such a warm, cosy image! Wrap yourself up in that blanket- you deserve it. Take care xx

I understand the want to do so but distract yourself it might sound a bit weird or hard but think of something you enjoy and do it or just sit down watch a movie and relax I know that i would really not want someone telling me this it would piss me off because how am I suppose to distract myself self harm helps me relax, if you decide to do self harm then no one can stop you its your choice just think of something you like i dont actually know if anyone will do it but 7 cups helped distract me and its working so i anyone who still self harms sees this just think about it

Hi, Kitten. Thank you so much for that really nice, supportive and helpful post you made to reply to the previous member. <3 I hope your day went well yesterday and today! Out of curiosity, why do you like listening to depressing music when you're alone by choice? Funny videos I love to watch, too! Comedy shows especially.

Yes, a warm blanket! It sounds like a wintry night inside. Wrap yourself up and snuggle tight! xx

@rebecca947

I dont really know to be honest. Listening to depressing songs sometimes helps me with my emotions, sometimes i'll feel fine when im actually not and the deressing songs help me get rid of the emotions i have stuffed in a bottle during the week. depressing videos help me know that not everyone gets a second chance at happiness some people are able to actually commit suicide without failing and it helps me to sometimes stay anchored to realltiy and not floating of into space.

I'm feeling conflicted. I'm not myself. I don't know how to describe it.

When I'm alone in my room I like to read. When I'm home alone, I watch videos without headphones and/or scream

@PurpleSnail

Welcome, Snail. happy to see you back! Hmm, that sounds quite confusing to be feeling that. Is there anything you can pinpoint your confliction against, or seemingly nothing at all? I hope you're feeling or will feel better and more yourself soon. It can be really hard to feel this way and not know how to resolve or accept it.

Videos without headphones/earphones sounds very freeing. Reading is a hobby everyone seems to enjoy on here! :D love it. Take care of yourself, hey? xx

Heya @rebecca947 ! Sorry I'm late

1) I'm doing alright today. I've been trying some new things related to my emotional control and how I respond to things. I've been following an account on instagram called The Holistic Psychologist , and a lot of the advice she gives has been super helpful for me.

2) Depends on where I am. If I am out somewhere, I'll just go on my phone. But if I am at home, I'll usually draw something or play some piano smiley

3) The quote makes me very uncomfortable. I've been so stuck in my low self-esteem that it seems wrong to think positively about myself, anything that encourages positive self-thinking seems cheesey to me. I need to change it , but it's easier said than done.

Anyways, I've got to head over to my next class. Please take care!

@CentreMid

Heya, Mid! You're not late at all! I'm glad you decided to respond despite what you thought! :) Very happy to see you here. Glad to hear that you're doing well! I'm very proud of you for trying to better help yourself. It takes a lot of vulnerability and dedication to self to inquire about our own issues and face them, and then try to improve.

That's true that it does depend on location. I love how you can draw and play the piano! Neither of those I can do, so I love it when someone else can. Very admirable!

I understand that it may feel uncomfortable right now for you. It's good to hear that you acknowledge the need to change, and the time it can take to do so. It's not easy, it never is. I hope with time and more self-inquiry, you'll be able to change your mindset and care for yourself more. Personally, gratitude toward myself has been helpful. Grateful that my bodily functions are working well, grateful that I can taste things etc. I wonder how you feel about that? Just a suggestion! Take good care of yourself and see you in the next check-in! Hope classes went well xx

1) How are you today? Is there anything you'd like to share with us?

I'm feeling extremely anxious. I'm going to be calling for a referral to a second therapist tomorrow (because the first one had no room for new patients, which makes me feel even more like I am useless and a complete burden...) and it's supposed to be a huge step forward, but I feel like everything is falling out from underneath me and my breathing isn't working super great right now.

2) Today's question is- What are your favorite things to do when you're alone?

I have to listen to music or watch a video when I'm alone or else my mind begins to wander.

3) I just did a Yoga with Adriene video, and she asked a really good question that I'd like to ask you all as well. If I were to say "Blanket yourself in love", how do you want to respond? What does that make you feel?

I don't feel like I deserve love. I'm always terrified I'm going to lose everyone I love. I've already lost myself.
