Self-Harm recovery daily check-in: Saturday July 4th, 2020.

Hello everyone and happy Saturday!! I'm sorry for the late post and I hope everyone is doing really well and having a great week! This week has been pretty okay so far. A good analogy I've been using for life lately is just driving. I myself am not really good at driving and I've been trying to avoid the obstacles and crashes, but it's important to remember that everyone has crashes sometimes.

Analogies are often a good way to think of certain mental health situations! My favorite analogy is used with mindfulness and trying to stay in the present moment while meditating or just living in general.

For the freeway analogy, I often describe to members that their minds and brains are like a freeway and the cars are like the thoughts that drive through and zoom through the highway. Our job, in order to remain present, is to just sit still and observe the cars. Unfortunately, we often jump in the middle of traffic and try to direct the cars (or control our thoughts) and inspect cars (dwell in our own thoughts for too long) and we completely forget to just sit still to observe. ☹️ I've been using this analogy for the past 2 years to try and stay more grounded with myself and to try and stay in present moment.
