(I am always having trouble on thinking of the perfect title for my thread or subject line. I often end up using the keyword focus- which is not always fancy to many readers ๐Ÿ˜บ)

For many of us , whenever we read a blog entry or long threads, we may like to immediately go to the main body of the text and skip the introductory paragraph. Just in case you are one of them- a gentle heads up- introduction is in the next paragraph . On a serious note - please read as you find comfortable.

During intense urges to hurt yourself, it can be hard to imagine that it's possible to do anything else. Itโ€™s all too easy to reach for the one thing you know will help, However there are also steps you can take to help you make other choices over time too. It's okay if you can't do it immediately. None can. Just know that it's possible.

Below, youโ€™ll find 6 strategies-backed with tiny tips to put into action, to help you through your next hurtful moment , when you have the urge to self harm.

1) 5 minute rule ๐Ÿฃ

In this technique, if you feel like self-harming, you wait 5 minutes before you do. Once 5 minutes are up, you see if you can go another 5 minutes. In some cases, the urge will eventually pass

Mean while you can -

2) Go to a ๐ŸŒผ โ€˜safe boxโ€™๐ŸŒป

You can create a safe box to help you through times when you feel overwhelmed by emotion and have the urge to harm yourself. Fill it with things that make you happy and calm to help you to get through this feeling. Some suggestions: activities such as crosswords, your favourite book, CD or movie. You could also include a list of things to do that calm you when feeling triggered.

3) ๐ŸŽกImagery๐ŸŒณ

visualizing scenes that are tranquil and relaxing to you. Scenes may be actual places you know that feel safe and relaxing

The more senses you can incorporate into your image, the more relaxing imagery is likely to be.you can imagine the smells, sounds, and tactile sensations as well as the visual aspects of the scene, you will improve your ability to relax.

4) Diaphragmatic Breathing

5) Deep Muscle Relaxation

( you can refer vedios online to get know the steps or sh self help guides at cups. )

Last but never the least!!

6) ๐ŸŽ†Do something you enjoy! ๐ŸŽŠ๐ŸŽˆ

Remember that there is more to you than self-harm. Do things that remind you of this and make you happy. Maybe this is a sport or a hobby you like doing, such as writing

Also these are just few among many other options out there!!๐ŸŒˆ So please don't think this is all we have got , we can never be more wrong if we think so. If you are comfortable, please feel welcomed to share your own ways that you try ๐Ÿ˜Š ๐Ÿ’ž
