Congratulations for remaining clean for a month. That shows tremendous strength. Sometimes more than strength is required. It may be acknowledgment, a sense of connection, nurturing, or help with other stressors in one’s life.

How can I help you remain strong?

I don’t know I’ve gotten support before but it always ends up back firing I’m basically un-help-able at this point I’ve gone to far before maybe but not at this stage

The support you got before might not have been the one you actually required, if you don’t mind. What kept you going in that one month

In my experience, it always backfires until one day, it doesn’t. Typically, it takes at least a month to establish the beginnings of a therapeutic relationship with a therapist. During that time, it can be easy to get tired of answering the same questions, after being questioned by several other people. It’s also quite common to feel very little hope in the beginning, and it takes a bit of persistence to hang on and give the process a chance to work, which helps hopelessness to diminish.

It can be really easy to feel un-help-able, and odds are that if/when you become involved with peer support, you’ll meet several other un-help-able people, each at various stages of recovery. 7Cups is largely peer support, and you may find that even while feeling un-help-able, you can be a source of comfort for others who are also struggling.

A significant plus for peer support is that often, as you help others to manage, you are also becoming more able to manage yourself.

You’ve gotten support before, but how was it sustained? How long did it last? At the time, what were your feelings about the support you were receiving? Typically, SH episodes are triggered by some kind of stressor. How was the approach to handling the stressors?

I had no other coping techniques other than sh and I have tried support before through my school and there are still occasional check ins but it’s not really helping me as I expected

Am sorry sorry about your frustration, but there are still people who care about you. Your tomorrow is brighter than your pain today. Remember tomorrow never dies. All you need now is someone to talk to, and pull out all the frustrations
