I'm not doing it for attention... but I am?

I'm not doing it for attention but instead as a cry for help. Is that normal? I always do it somewhere noticeable. My hands. My forearms. My shoulder. I do it so someone will see it but then I hide it with my life. Does anyone go through something similar? Or does anyone have an answer for me? Why do I do this to myself? Put it somewhere blatantly obvious and if anyone were to see it I would be angry. Can anyone help?

@goodPlane2717

Honestly same. I'd been doing it with blunt objects till recently, leaving indents rather than scars, until i had a bad mental breakdown. I'm working to stop, but it's a process. Scars often end up being our way of calling for help when our brain muffles our screams

@goodPlane2717 i do the same thing. like, i want somebody to see it to validate what i'm going through- but i know i would be uncomfortable if somebody pointed it out.

It's hard for you to reach out but you still hope that someone will see your pain and help you, i think i understand it very much, but you're not doing it for the attention you're just in pain and it hurt when life is going on so fine and no one see and nothing changes so you just leave it as a sign that not everything is alr as you /we pretend it is, but it's still not easy to show them yourself or reach out to them
