New but looking forward to support

I’d like to say “Hi”. I am older but really feel this symptom is a large part of several of my diagnoses. I treasure my in person support team, however we are all teachers. So unless, like me, you have encountered self harm, they want to help but are unsure of how. So I am really looking for support, coping skills, and motivation to no longer act on my urges and desires.

I hope you all have a positive day!

A lot of research goes into self-harm therapy.  Much of it includes massive amounts of interviews of those who deal with SH.  I think it may be beneficial to have both peer support and that of professionals, which among them, probably includes therapists who've also had personal experience with SH. Even therapists who've had no personal experience with SH, may have talked to a multitude of people who have self-harmed.  Triggers for SH events are highly varied, so peer support, although in most cases, very helpful, may not bring about the highest level of understanding for everyone.

One great thing about peer support is that it's pretty likely that among those peers, some will have received some therapy, and can share what they've learned, and may even be able to recommend a therapist who's competent in therapy related to self-harm.
