Sitting with the pain
Sit with the pain and with what feels overwhelming. Do not divert to hitting yourself, alcohol or any form of self-punishment. This is what my therapist wrote to me. I understand this rationally, but I don't know how to do it. How do I keep staying still if I am overwhelmed. How do I cope with this. I am starting to feel the urge again. I so want to be proud of myself, but I am going to fail. I just want to forget who I am.
What do you think about mindfulness meditation ? It helps us to sit with the discomfort that we are feeling and accept it rather than deny it—giving our feelings/thoughts/emotions space to process and pass through us rather than control us. Mindfulness meditation can help ground us in the present moment. Many good articles online and YouTube about how to practice it as well as guided exercises :) @admaiorasemper

Thank you for your words. I know about mindfulness and try to practise it as often as I can. But in those very dark moments I just forget about everything else. Maybe I should write the word mindfulness on a post-it and stick it to the wall. There may be a chance for me to see it during those moments.
Reminders like that can definitely help! And, as you practice more, it becomes easier to not need reminders. It is really difficult when we are buried under our emotions/thoughts to remember that mindfulness can help us observe them rather than get stuck within them. @admaiorasemper
