i have ugly scars on me
my scars may not be as extreme or serious as all of you but. im about to turn 16 and im scared that people will turn me away from them because of my scars. i have 3 scratches on my hand from when i scratched it a few months back. and one on the inside of my wrist from over a year ago. i have small scars going up and down my left arm from squeezing and popping acne on it. im just really scared that people will find me ugly because of them
@TylerAAB hello Tyler. good to see you.
i understand it can be an incredibly scary thought for you. I understand you would fear any rejection.
but i do want to let you know that scars are not ugly at all. i know this can be hard to believe but trust me , they are not.
On my recovery journey, i have learned that my scars do not define my worth, and that they are actually just a little feature of mine and show that i had a really difficult time, but that i got through it and am still here. I see them as a sign of strength and i feel like they play an important part of me. And i hope that you are able to see their "beauty" or at least accept them sometime as well. It takes time, but trust me, you will get there.
Any person who likes you will not judge you based on any scars. They may be a bit scared since they do not want you to be hurt in any way. But anyone who really likes you will only see it as a little feature of yourself. But the most important thing is what you think about them and how you treat yourself based on them.
@TylerAAB
There are some practical ways to cover up or disguise the marks if they make you feel uncomfortable when you're interacting with others. Makeup that matches your skintone could be used to cover up the scars. A wristband, a watch with a thicker wrist band, or even bracelets could make it harder to see the marks on your wrist. These are just off the top of my head.
Hi there @TylerAAB! I see you have just joined our community, which makes me happy. I really hope we will be able to make you feel supported all along your journey.
I really understand your fear of rejection. We are often very self-conscious of our body and of SH scars especially, as they bring along lots of memories. However, I can reassure you that what looks pretty evident and huge and ugly to us usually don't to others.
@integrityblues has suggested you lots of ways to cover them up if they really bother you, and there is another one that come up to my mind: cover-up tattoos! I know they are not for everyone, but they can become an amazing and beautiful symbol of recovery.
