Self-Harm Relapse and GF trust broken

I started sh again after a yearish of not and my partner noticed and asked about it so I told her what it was. She has been very hurt and feeling that I broke all of her trust. I know that I should have come to her with it and not tried to hide it and I feel SO terrible about myself and like I am ruining my relationship that I worked so hard to build. I want her to feel safe and trust me more than anything. I don't want to sh again but also feel the urges all the time because I feel so bad about myself. If anyone has any thoughts of what could help the situation or has been in similar situations that would help.

hiya there,

i'm so sorry to hear your partner found out about your scars that's awful. i can understand how much it must've hurt to get found out after hiding it from them for so long. i understand how you might be feeling about yourself, they must be some really heavy feelings 💖

it sounds more like they were upset at the fact that you hurt yourself, rather than that you kept it from them for so long. i'm sure they're only hurt that you never got any help for it, and maybe a bit confused as to why you'd never told them before

they sound to be quite upset, maybe it will help you can tell them why you kept it a secret for so long? everyone has their own reasons, but its most usually that we don't want to upset our loved ones in case they ever found out

if you feel it would be difficult to tell it in person, maybe you could write it down on a paper and hand it to them. either way, i'm sure when you tell them why, then they'd totally understand. they're perhaps only heartbroken that they didn't get a chance to help you before. plus, you wanting them to feel safe and trusted tells a lot more about you too, i'm sure you never meant to hurt them 💖

mind telling us how it went in case you decide to talk to them?

take care
