12 steps my way
I get really triggered by the mention of god and spirituality. But I still want to go to meetings and improve myself. So I re-wrote the 12 steps to recovery. (In swedish) then I mirrored the steps into an english poem. I would love for my poem to start conversation and discussion. I would also love constructive criticism on the poem.
I confess my powerlessness,
To the dysfunctional parents,
Who made me feel like I didn’t belong,
And that everything I did was wrong.
I’ve come to understand,
That only I can give me grace,
Because the power they made,
And nobody would come to my aid.
I decided to take back control,
Over myself and will,
Now I’m in my own care,
I’m awake and aware.
I’ve searched my head for what it’s for,
I searched my heart fearlessly,
Painstakingly questioned my morals,
Hoping another spring will be floral.
Admitted my faults,
Not only to myself,
I got others involved,
But there is no quick fix to resolve.
I have come to terms with my fate,
I have accepted my mistakes,
And seen my defects,
And how my actions effect.
I humbled myself as I begged to question,
Myself to remove my wrongs,
So I can reach a life where I belong,
I seek in myself to become strong.
I made a list of the people I hurt,
I searched for them on high alert,
I confess my sins to my power,
Cared for it like a flower.
I tried to make it right for them all,
I confess my sins and tried to heal the scars,
Where I can I find compassion,
Redemption is my newest fashion.
I continue to work to be my best self,
Looking inward and admitting,
When I’m wrong or in my feelings,
My sins are in proceedings.
I searched through mindfulness and meditation,
To come in contact with myself,
So I can become a better version of a person,
And working on becoming positive and assertion.
When this thinking has awoken my better self,
I try to pay it forward and try to help,
This is giving you hope and strength to carry on,
Welcome to an emotional marathon.
