Frustrated and need advice

Hi all, I wanted to talk and maybe get advice because I'm very frustrated.

I'm in a relationship and have been for 2 and a half years now. I love my partner, he is incredibly loving and I deeply care for him as he does me.

He is an alcoholic, and it's been something he's gotten better about and grown a lot from. Today, however, before work, he had a shot. I warned him not to and he still did before leaving to Uber to work.

At work he decided to take his coworker up on some weed, which has never ever been something he was interested in or did. He told me when we started dating it gave him bad reactions as he has asthma, and wouldn't touch it anywhere we went.

For some reason, today, he did. I should preface that October is an incredibly hard month for him, and it's never easy, but this has never happened before.

He works overnight, so I texted him goodnight and went to bed. Midway through his shift he leaves, Ubers home, slurred his speech to tell me what happened, and passed out on the floor. He is still there now.

I don't know what to think of this or what to do, and I don't want to go about this the wrong way. He is incredibly rejection sensitive, and I love him, but I'm incredibly frustrated he would do something so irresponsible and potentially dangerous! He could hardly speak and operate when he got home, so what if he got in the wrong Uber or put in the wrong address or got kidnapped or something? I am angry and frustrated, but also concerned. How do I convey that?

@shyClementine1086

🥺

I'm sorry you are going through this.

I hope at least he is safe and Sober now.

I'm sorry it's a hard time for him.

But in relationships there must be open communication and honest and boundaries.

The person who had to witness the alcoholic hurting themselves and making bad choices equally suffers.

I know you love him, but he needs to take accountability for his actions and find healthier ways to cope.

You need to feel at peace in your own home.

@shyClementine1086It sounds like you care deeply about your partner and are worried about his safety, which makes your frustration completely understandable. You’re balancing love, concern, and fear of upsetting him, which is really hard. It’s okay to express your feelings calmly, focusing on your concern for his safety and the impact his choices have on you, without blaming him. You deserve to feel heard and safe too.
