Heavy drinking

Hi, I'm new here.

Does anybody have any tips on how to help heavy alcoholic addictions or atleast on how to cut down how much alcohol you drink?

I've been drinking since I was 7, I used to take sips and gulps out of my mother's bottles and didn't even realise that it would turn into this. Ever since I was 10, I finally developed a heavy alcoholic problem and I used to drink bottles, daily, and it'd damage me mentally so much. Only now am I willing to attempt to get better, and I'm still so overwhelmed and scared to try.

So, I'm asking if anybody has any tips on how to make it slightly easier for me? :)

Hi there! And congratulations on getting to this point in your life of knowing you need to make changes. It is not easy, but I know you can do it. The first thing I would do is to look for Alcoholic's Anonymous in your area or any other addiction support group to help you stay accountable and have in person support.

I want you to know that I admire you for taking this step. Today is the beginning of the rest of your life. Sending you prayers!

You have to realize what draws you to alcohol. Is it the alcohol or is it something else that alcohol is replacing? You have been doing some soul searching and that’s awesome! (this can happen with a bottle in your hand as well).

Be kind to yourself and please don’t go cold turkey. Understand that you developed a habit from an age where your brain is/was still developing and that affects the decisions you make now. You are realizing that you are worth taking care of yourself.

From someone who is on a similar journey as you, the first step is to continue drinking at a reduced speed. Time yourself to see how long it takes to drink your drink of choice and try to beat that time. Create an active objective of drinking slower which will give your body the time to metastasize the alcohol and give you a better understanding of your current state of drunk.

i personally don’t believe in trying to sub in water for drinks when you’re drinking - you don’t want water when you are drinking. I would rather see someone struggling with alcohol learn to be more mindful when they are indulging and begin to break down the process of why they drink, what are you hoping to achieve once you’re drunk? Elation? Suppression? Numbing?

iI hope I have helped you in some way. These are just some of the things I have encountered in my addition journey. I wish you the best and remember to pay yourself on the back - you’re here asking real and important questions for yourself. Best journey. :)
