Hi everyone. I've been struggling with alcohol addiction for aabout 5 years now. Sometimes when I black out I get suicidal. I've tried to cut myself off from drinking but once I start I can't stop so I've decided to stop completely. Today I relapsed.

First of all thank you for trusting us enough to share that. You surely have come a long way, 5 years is a very admirable time so congratulations for fighting and resisting for so long. Now I know it must be very difficult right now, you might feel disappointed in yourself but I just want to say that relapse is not the end of the recovery. Recovery is such a difficult unique process for each and every person and it doesn't come overnight, for some it takes many years of hard work and many relapses, many tries, many different treatments until they get there but as long as you have the desire to want to get better there is still hope. I among so many other people out there believe in you and I want to say that you are not your struggles, they are only one part of your life and they do not define you. And you are not alone and you absolutely do not have to feel ashamed for any of it. I truly believe that you are able to work your courage up again and give abstinence another try, no matter how long it takes until you do that, when you will finally get there it will all be worth it. For the black out part I hope you're able to refrain yourself from any dangerous objects or situations and such despite the difficulty of not entirely being in right state of mind when under influence and the urges being harder to control.

@thetomorrowgirl - I am new to this community and just wanted to say how mature and helpful your words are. I too am struggling with alcohol addiction and have relapsed several times. Thank you for your kindness and encouragement.
