@determinedPenny6684 Hey Penny hope you're good and well. Sorry you're having struggles I hope you feel more yourself asap. Just wanted to reply, this issue really interests me as myself and my little one (9yr) both have adhd and I've been considering reluctantly to test out meds to help us have a calmer less chaotic life style 🤡🌪. If it's this difficult to stop then maybe I should be avoiding them? What are the side effects or withdrawal symptoms like if that's ok to ask. No pressure to answer just would be good to hear first hand experience stories from anyone who can share them on here. Would be grateful for any help on what to avoid etc. Thank you for sharing Penny I hope you find an answer somewhere quickly so you can feel better. Will your doc not help you to substitute with something else if you're struggling so much? Feel for you 😔, times are hard enough just now without feeling crap ontop of it. Take care. Cat 😊

Hello, I am 36 and i have been down many different roads with different drugs and I can tell you that asking my doctor to prescribe me to adderall is one of the worst decisions I’ve made in my life. I’ve always been a fairly high strung person but I’m also very laid back, not sure how to explain that but yea the high strung part of me was never really a problem because it always led me to good things really. It kept me on the move and progressing in life so obviously it wasn’t extreme adhd like alot of you have probably had to deal with. The real issue was anxiety that was being masked by my high strungness (I’m gonna pretend that’s a word) so I never knew that what I was experiencing was anxiety until I took a benzo and then realized what a non zooming brain feels like but that’s another thread. So I started taking adderall at like 28 or 29 just because it cured my hangovers and then after a few years of occasional use I talked my doctor into giving it to me and then I became addicted to the point to where I needed it to function which is where I’ve been for about 5 years now and I wish everyday I had never started taking it. If I don’t take it, I can’t think, I can’t sleep, I can barely get out of bed. I’m currently trying to wean down so when I do stop I can still function while I feel like crap. Relatively speaking adderall withdrawals atleast the physical part doesn’t last real long but the acute withdrawals stick around alittle longer but I know I have to start dealing with it at some point. I’ve spent countless hours researching the best ways to do it and supplements that can help and the timeline of withdrawals and anything else you can’t think of. Now im just missing a group to go to and money to go back to my therapist. I hate being controlled by these drugs and I hate not ever feeling my own sense of happiness anymore. I do get pleasure from trying to help other people on their journey so anybody that needs to chat or have any questions I’ve definitely been around the block.

Hello,

I see this was posted 4 years ago so maybe you’re not active on here anymore, but just thought it was worth a try. I just wanted to talk to someone about what it’s like mentally for them when going through the decision to take another pill (when know you shouldn’t).

I’ve been on a roller coaster with my medication and I really am getting sick of it, it’s like I have the best intentions and I really want to be this healthy person, I mean really I’m all about it,, and then somehow- by trying to make the right decisions or what I think or tell myself at the time- I end up in the same spot I was in the last time. Unhealthy, starting at level zero, swearing I’ll do better and be healthier the next time (and even getting excited/enthusiastic about being this better version of myself!!), and then SOMEHOW I end up in the same spot the next time- trying to dig myself out of a hole, swearing I’ll be better, making all the mental energy to really plan to be different and better this time.

Rinse repeat etc.

It’s so VERY EXHAUSTING and discouraging/disheartening and I feel so humbled and full of self-hatred. Like the low feels SO sucky.

But then I find myself on the same roller coaster, week after week, month after month, it’s like I have no actual strength or character or autonomy. Like my so so SO important goals are never realized and they feel practically meaningless, whereas I swore by them before. This constant cycle makes me lose so much self belief and trust, and I guess respect. That feeling that something which is my top priority one minute, might mean almost nothing the next, is a really discouraging and stupid way to think about myself.

I struggle with something similar but the street form of it pretty much. Been using on and off for almost a year now. My mental health has been bad that I just was so depressed I had to do something to get out of bed and take a dang shower. It was the only thing that kept me from wanting to fall asleep and not wake up. There are days I wish I wasn't doing it. Then days I don't do it even weeks. Im trying to figure out how to get clean and sober again, I've done it before for years but this time my depression is so bad it's just been hard to not self medicated. Hopefully you can find the right path for you and find some peace too 🤘🏻

I do.. I feel like I can't properly work or really do anything without it. I mean I can because I can't always afford it, but it's gotten bad. My tolerance is so high I'm up to 80-100mg at a time.. I'm not taking it as of right now. But I miss it and think about it always. It's sad. I feel like I think more about having that energy then I do on my own son.. the guilt about that is unbelievable...
