Antidepressants and drug abuse

Hey there,

I was wondering if anyone has any insight in using prescribed antidepressants and abusing recreational drugs? It dawned on me after a chat with a listener that the antidepressants might be counter-acted by the recreational using.

I have only begun using antidepressants and had a few "episodes" of severe depressive thoughts and physical impulsive anxiety in which my doctor just changed my type of med and dosage. But now I'm thinking perhaps my using may have contributed to that experience.

I started abusing drugs a few months ago because I had been severely depressed and anxious and didn't know how to cope. I tried numerous things but abusing drugs was the only time I felt "good" during these dark few months. Now I'm hoping the meds that were prescribed to me will help and I won't need to use anymore. But I still find myself using.

Anyone has any insight they can shed on this?
