I'm really struggling.

I'm trying really hard to do things to make my life better and work on my problems, but in reality I'm really struggling. I know where the road I'm going down leads, and I don't want to go there. But I don't really feel like I have any other options. I feel like I have nothing in my life. No confidence, no ability to maintain friendships or relationships, no firm direction in life. I need a passion for something to make life worth living. All of these problems aren't even the fault of my drug use -- it's just a symptom of an underlining problem. I take drugs to mask the fact that I can't deal with having to face the reality of my empty, meaningless life. It doesn't have to be this way. I know that. I just can't seem to make the changes I need to make. I guess it's mostly fear that holds me back.

@resourcefulPond1641 Hey Pond, sorry to hear you've been struggling lately. I understand what you mean by the addiction being a coping mechanism; addiction is commonly used as a means to escape reality. Well, we are here for you at any time. :) Also, reaching out here on 7Cups is a great step forward. Change can be difficult to embrace, and even small steps can make a difference. Thanks for sharing, and I hope you feel better. Always appreciate hearing from you. :)
