I just need someone to listen and give therapeutic advice. It’s a very long story and I need to learn to redirect my reactions in my new relationship, and cope with triggers.

Hey there!

So while I'm not qualified to give therapeutic advice (there are licensed therapists on 7 Cups), I am very familiar with narcissistic abuse. As you know, it's an extremely insidious form of abuse that wreaks havoc on one's sense of safety and ability to enjoy life. And as you said, relationships with anyone do involve coping with triggers.

For myself, I've had to really exercise mindfulness everyday (which I largely was able to develop through meditation) in order to maintain my own sense of safety, self, and vitality.

If you'd like, I could link you to a guided meditation that I have used on YouTube that has helped me to both cope and work through triggers.

I’ve tried mediation, doesn’t work for me. I just need to tell someone my story of a 22 year marriage to a narcissistic man and receive advice. I recently came out as an lesbian, which I believe I knew I was since high school and currently in a relationship with an non-binary person. I love them so much, but I feel like I’m reacting to them as my abuser would have to me for 22 years.

I wouldn’t wish that on anyone, but there are soo many differences, that just irritate me. I don’t know how to react or how to stop and think before I react.
