Therapy Options
I'm loathe to share too much but I've struggle with PTSD, loneliness and social awkwardness and most likely ADHD too.
Startrd a weekly session with a listener yesterday, which is promising. What I'm trying to figure out is the relative merits of working with listeners against the investment in therapy and if I choose to invest, not particularly spiritual although a recent read on neuroplasticity has changed that a little, what type of therapy is likely to help most, I'm currently looking into DBT as my biggest issue is feeling stuck, particularly for the past 7 years !!!
I'm loving 7 Cups, thank you to everyone I've interacted with so far, my small talk can ky improve and it is helping combat loneliness a little.

Hey there, thanks so much for sharing what you feel comfortable to, that takes a lot of courage! I'm so glad that working with a listener has been able to help you and that you're enjoying accessing the community, it's great to have you here :)
Regarding your question about therapy, I will leave it to someone with more experience than I to answer your question about what would best suit you, but in my experience, there are so many types out there and a good therapist will make sure that you're a good fit for the type of therapy they offer before you start your sessions.
I've had DBT and found it to be really transformative in giving me a practical toolkit - it can be pretty no nonsense, which suits me to a t.
@Lyra
Thank you for the response, what records do you enjoy listening to ? I'm into classic and progressive rock and a little metal too, always got radio or tunes playing as I don't really do TV.
@RunningMachine
Hey hey, no problem :) Super happy to chat 1:1 if you want to discuss further! I'm a big radio girlie, I love BBC 6Music and anything alt/ indie. Most recently I've been listening to Joshua Burnside's new album.
@RunningMachine this is honestly a universal feeling, I struggle with a little bit of PTSD myself due to childhood trauma, I truly hope you can find a path/journey here which works for you!
@RunningMachine as a clinical I would say DBT could def work, however I personally work with individuals based on their style and it’s I can say, it’s not one size fits all.

Thank you for responding, it was a lesson about 'radical acceptance' that caught my attention in particular, I'm logically minded not spiritual and it strikes me as a practice I might respond to. Talking with 'Noni' has helped tremendously in terms of reflection and identifying issues, talking with listeners quite soothing,. Early days but I feel I may need to start therapy to combat the health anxiety from PTSD that is making me feel stuck, feeling retirement with absolutely nonsense of purpose or plans.
@RunningMachine
Hii, “You’ve been carrying a lot, and it makes sense you’re looking for the right kind of support. I’m really glad 7 Cups has helped you feel a little less alone.
