Hi everyone!

I am 24 years old and I've been a mother for 18 months now and for the past year I've been struggling with my body image and my self-esteem has taken a blow. I no longer have the drive to take care of myself like I used to. I've lost a lot of weight and now I just feel like I'm living in a shell. I don't feel as beautiful as I used to. I think I only have surface confidence because as much as I look like I am so sure and confident of myself, I know deep down, I do not believe it. I don't know what else to do. I'm just stuck and I can feel myself getting lost.

Hey there,

sounds like maybe you've forgotten about yourself to care for your little one? Or is it more of a conscious thought?

I want to remind you that you are beautiful as you are. I know you've probably heard this too many times and see it as just words maybe. But it is true. You clearly care, and are kind. That's more important than any appearance.

Hi there! I'm really sorry to hear that you're going through such a challenging time with your body image and self-esteem. It's important to remember that you're not alone in this struggle. Many mothers face similar feelings and pressures, because of societal expectations and pressures around women's bodies.

Sexism creates unrealistic beauty standards and promoting a narrow definition of what it means to be beautiful. These standards are incredibly damaging to women's self-esteem. It's unfair that mothers, who have brought life into this world and made tremendous sacrifices, are expected to bounce back immediately and adhere to these unrealistic ideals.

Taking care of yourself as a mother is crucial, but it's essential to remember that self-care goes beyond physical appearance. It involves nurturing your mental and emotional well-being as well. It's completely normal to feel overwhelmed and lost during this phase of motherhood. It's a time of significant adjustment and change, both physically and emotionally.

One suggestion I have is to seek support from other mothers who may have gone through similar experiences. Connecting with a support group can provide a safe space for sharing your feelings, receiving advice, and realizing that you're not alone in your struggles. They may have helpful insights or coping strategies that could benefit you.

Remember that your worth as a person and a mother extends far beyond your physical appearance. Taking small steps towards self-acceptance and practising self-compassion can gradually help you regain your sense of self and feel more comfortable in your own skin.

Take care of yourself, both physically and emotionally, and don't hesitate to reach out for help when needed ❤️
