About Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP)

The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) is dedicated to providing free USDA commodity foods to low-income households in Emporia, KS, and across the state. Operated by the Kansas Department for Children and Families, TEFAP ensures that essential nutrition reaches those in need by delivering food supplies five to six times a year to local organizations for further distribution. Each shipment includes a variety of nutritious options, such as canned vegetables, fruits, juices, meat, cereal, peanut butter, nonfat dry milk, and pasta, offering families a minimum of four to a maximum of ten essential food items. Households interested in receiving assistance must apply through their home county, helping us to fulfill our mission of food assistance and ensuring everyone has access to the resources they need to thrive.
