The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) in Olathe, KS, is dedicated to alleviating hunger by providing essential food assistance to low-income households across the region. Operated by the Kansas Department for Children and Families, TEFAP distributes free USDA commodity foods, ensuring families have access to nutritious staples such as canned vegetables, fruit, juice, meat, cereal, peanut butter, nonfat dry milk, and pasta. With food shipments occurring five to six times a year, each participating household receives a minimum of four and up to ten different food items to meet their basic nutritional needs.
