The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Berlin, MD empowers individuals to become advocates for a socially, environmentally, and economically just food system through hands-on training and education. Sponsored by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, this transformative program provides Fellows with the opportunity to immerse themselves in organic food system education and practical experiences. From growing and distributing diversified crops on market-style farms to maintaining community gardens and leading innovative health care educational sessions, our Fellows actively support local food initiatives. They also play a crucial role in integrating food and ecological literacy into school curricula, promoting farmers markets, and enhancing community access to healthy foods. This fellowship is offered at no cost, ensuring accessibility for those seeking to make a difference in their communities. Selected Fellows engage in a six-month experiential residential study, followed by a Community Action Year collaborating with regional non-profits to implement their training and foster community engagement. Applications are accepted until March each year, with the fellowship experience typically running from May to October.
