The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship, located in Hampstead, MD, is dedicated to empowering individuals to become advocates for a fair and sustainable food system through immersive, hands-on training. Hosted by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, this fellowship offers selected participants a unique six-month experiential learning opportunity at the Allegheny Farm in Highland County, VA, free of tuition to ensure accessibility. Fellows gain essential skills in organic food system education while engaging with partner organizations to promote community food initiatives, manage market-style farms, facilitate health education sessions, and support local farmers markets. They also play a pivotal role in fostering food and ecological literacy in schools and enhancing access to healthy food options. Following their fellowship, participants embark on a Community Action Year, further applying their knowledge in collaboration with regional non-profit organizations. Applications are accepted until March each year, with program activities taking place from May to October.
