About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship

The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Bay Saint Louis, MS, is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of advocates for a fair and sustainable food system. Through immersive training and hands-on experience, our Fellows learn about organic food systems and community engagement while working at the Allegheny Farm Campus in Highland County, VA. We believe in promoting accessibility, which is why we charge no tuition for our program. Our Fellows participate in diverse activities including the cultivation and distribution of crops on market-style farms, educational sessions focused on innovative health care, and the maintenance of school and community gardens. By integrating food and ecological literacy into local education, supporting farmers markets, and fostering the development of distribution channels for healthier foods, we actively contribute to strengthening community food systems. After six months of rich experiential learning, Fellows transition into a Community Action Year, applying their newfound skills in partnership with regional non-profits. Applications for this transformative opportunity are open until March, with the fellowship experience spanning from May to October.
