About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship

The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Clarksdale, MS, fosters a robust network of passionate individuals dedicated to championing a food system that prioritizes social, environmental, and economic justice. Sponsored and trained by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, our Fellows engage in hands-on learning at the Allegheny Farm and gain the skills to educate and inspire others. The program emphasizes organic food system education without charging tuition, ensuring accessibility for aspiring leaders. Participants will have the opportunity to grow and distribute diversified crops, implement innovative healthcare education sessions, maintain community gardens, and integrate food and ecological literacy into local schools. Our Fellows also support farmers markets and direct-to-consumer initiatives, develop distribution channels for healthy foods, and engage in community coalitions. This immersive six-month experience culminates in a Community Action Year, allowing participants to apply their learned skills while collaborating with regional non-profit organizations. Applications are accepted until March, with the fellowship experience running from May to October each year.
