About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship

Located in Indianola, MS, the Farm & Food Systems Fellowship empowers individuals to become passionate advocates for sustainable food systems that prioritize social, environmental, and economic justice. This innovative program, offered by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, provides a unique opportunity for selected Fellows to engage in hands-on training without any tuition cost, fostering accessibility for all. During their six-month stay at the Allegheny Farm Campus, participants gain invaluable education in organic farming, community gardening, and food literacy. Furthermore, Fellows collaborate with local partners to grow diverse crops, host educational sessions in health care, and promote farmers markets and direct-to-consumer initiatives. Following their fellowship, participants launch into a Community Action Year, applying their skills and knowledge with regional non-profit organizations to drive change and enhance food access. Applications are open until March each year, with the fellowship experience running from May to October.
