The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Jackson, MS, is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of advocates and educators for a just food system that prioritizes social, environmental, and economic equity. Sponsored by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, this transformative program offers a tuition-free experience, ensuring accessibility for all aspiring Fellows. Participants engage in comprehensive organic food system education, gaining hands-on experience through growing and distributing a diverse array of crops on a market-style farm. The Fellowship empowers individuals to implement innovative educational initiatives, foster community gardens, and enhance food literacy in schools. Additionally, Fellows support farmers markets, direct-to-consumer programs, and community food coalitions, all while developing channels that improve access to healthy foods. After six months of immersive training at the Allegheny Farm Campus, each Fellow embarks on a Community Action Year, partnering with local non-profits to apply their skills and knowledge. Applications are accepted until March each year, with experiences typically running from May to October.
