About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship
The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship, located in Poplarville, MS, is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of leaders committed to building a food system that prioritizes social, environmental, and economic justice. This innovative program provides a tuition-free opportunity for selected Fellows to engage in hands-on, experiential learning at the Allegheny Farm, where they will delve into organic food systems education and actively participate in impactful community initiatives. Fellows collaborate with local partners to cultivate diverse crops in market-style farms, implement educational health initiatives, maintain community gardens, and deepen food and ecological literacy in schools. With a strong focus on expanding access to nutritious food through farmers markets and direct-to-consumer programs, the Fellowship emphasizes hands-on experience during a six-month residential training, followed by a Community Action Year to apply their skills with regional non-profit organizations. Applications are open until March each year, with the program running from May to October, fostering a vibrant network of advocates for a just food system.
