About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship

The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship located in Manhattan, NV, prepares passionate individuals to be educators and advocates for a just food system that prioritizes social, environmental, and economic equity. Sponsored by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, this no-cost program is designed to promote accessibility to high-quality education in organic food systems. Our Fellows engage in hands-on training at the Allegheny Farm, where they learn to grow and distribute diverse crops while also implementing innovative health education initiatives and maintaining community gardens. Additionally, they integrate food and ecological literacy into school activities, promote farmers markets, develop access channels for healthy foods, and support local food coalitions. Over six months of immersive experience followed by a Community Action Year with regional non-profits empowers our Fellows to apply their knowledge and effect positive change in their communities. Applications are welcome until March each year, with experiences typically running from May to October.
