About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship
The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship, based in Ashaway, RI, cultivates the next generation of leaders dedicated to creating a just and sustainable food system. This fellowship offers comprehensive training and hands-on experience, empowering Fellows to advocate for social, environmental, and economic equity in food systems. Through organic food system education, participants engage in diverse projects including crop cultivation, community gardening, and educational initiatives that promote food and ecological literacy. Selected Fellows embark on a transformative six-month immersive experience at the Allegheny Farm in Highland County, VA, where they learn by doing, followed by a Community Action Year collaborating with local non-profits to enhance food access and support community food initiatives. Committed to fostering inclusivity, the fellowship does not charge tuition, ensuring that anyone passionate about food justice can participate. Applications are accepted until March each year for an enriching experience that typically runs from May to October.
