The Emergency Shelter Program at Lucy's Hearth in Newport, RI, is dedicated to providing a safe haven for families with children seeking temporary shelter. Our facility accommodates up to six families, fostering a nurturing environment with shared amenities such as a kitchen, dining area, television room, playground, and a learning center. We offer vital emergency shelter services that include crisis intervention, case management, life-skills and parenting skills groups, financial literacy education, and GED preparation. Our goal is to empower families through mental health treatment, job readiness skills, nutrition classes, and after-school homework help, alongside art and fitness programs. Transportation to appointments and access to community resources are part of our comprehensive support. We also offer ongoing assistance for former residents, ensuring they have access to essential resources for up to six months post-shelter. Lucy's Hearth is passionately committed to helping families avoid future homelessness, and those interested must complete a screening with United Way 2-1-1 before applying.
