About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship
The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Wakefield, RI, is dedicated to empowering individuals to advocate for a just food system that prioritizes social, environmental, and economic equity. This immersive program, offered at the Allegheny Farm in Highland County, VA, provides selected Fellows with free access to comprehensive organic food system education, enabling them to become effective educators and leaders in their communities. Over six months of hands-on training, participants will engage in diverse initiatives, including growing and distributing crops, maintaining community gardens, and enhancing food literacy in schools. The Fellowship also emphasizes the creation of equitable distribution channels to increase access to healthy food options while supporting local farmers' markets and community food coalitions. Following their training, each Fellow embarks on a Community Action Year, collaborating with regional non-profits to implement their newfound skills and knowledge. Applications are accepted until March each year, with the program commencing from May through October.
