About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship

The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship, located in Belton, SC, is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of food system advocates by providing comprehensive training in sustainable agriculture and community engagement. Sponsored by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, this fellowship fosters a socially, environmentally, and economically just food system through hands-on experience at our Allegheny Farm. We offer an accessible program with no tuition, empowering Fellows to learn about organic farming, implement educational initiatives for innovative healthcare, manage community and school gardens, and integrate food and ecological literacy into various activities. Over six months of immersive training, participants gain practical skills while cultivating diverse crops in a market-style setting. Following their fellowship, they embark on a Community Action Year, collaborating with local non-profits on impactful projects that enhance food access and promote food justice. Applications are accepted until March of each year, with the immersive experience typically running from May to October.
