About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship
The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Blythewood, SC, is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of advocates for a fair and sustainable food system. Sponsored by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, this immersive program fosters hands-on learning and empowerment through organic agriculture education, ensuring accessibility by charging no tuition. Throughout a transformative six-month residency at the Allegheny Farm, Fellows engage in growing and distributing diverse crops, implementing educational health initiatives, and integrating food and ecological literacy into local schools. They also support community gardens, farmers markets, and direct-to-consumer food programs, all while collaborating with regional non-profits during their Community Action Year. By mentoring future cohorts and actively participating in community food coalition activities, the Fellows promote a food system that is just, healthy, and environmentally sound, taking applications each year by March for experiences running from May through October.
