The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) in Hopkins, SC, is dedicated to empowering individuals and families by offering practical nutrition education tailored to their needs. Collaborating with the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture and Clemson University Cooperative Extension Service, EFNEP focuses on four essential areas: diet quality and physical activity, food resource management, food safety, and food security. Through a 10-session interactive program, participants engage in both group and one-on-one lessons that teach them how to plan and prepare healthy meals, ensure food safety, stretch their food budgets, and increase physical activity. Accessibility is key, as EFNEP serves a diverse audience including children, youth, adults, and families with limited financial resources, particularly those eligible for Food Assistance programs like WIC, SNAP, AFDC, or Head Start. Our mission is to enhance the well-being of our community by equipping individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to make informed food choices.
