Located in Williamston, SC, the Farm & Food Systems Fellowship offered by the Allegheny Mountain Institute is dedicated to cultivating the next generation of advocates and educators for a just food system. Our program fosters a deep understanding of organic food systems without charging tuition, ensuring accessibility for all participants. Fellows engage in hands-on training at the Allegheny Farm in Highland County, VA, where they learn to grow and distribute diverse crops, support local farmers markets, and develop vital distribution channels that enhance community access to healthy foods. In addition to practical farm experience, our Fellows implement educational programs aimed at promoting food and ecological literacy within schools, maintain community or school gardens, and collaborate with local non-profits to enact meaningful change. This immersive experience lasts six months, culminating in a Community Action Year where Fellows apply their skills in real-world settings. Applications are accepted until March each year, and the fellowship typically runs from May to October.
