About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship

The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Bridgeport, WV, empowers dedicated individuals to become advocates for a food system that prioritizes social, environmental, and economic justice. This transformative program, offered by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, eliminates tuition barriers to ensure accessibility, providing a comprehensive education in organic food systems. Selected Fellows embark on a six-month immersive experience at the Allegheny Farm Campus in Highland County, VA, where they cultivate their skills in growing and distributing diverse crops on a market-style farm, implementing innovative health education, and integrating food and ecological literacy into community activities. Additionally, they engage in mentoring, support local farmers markets, and develop distribution channels that enhance access to healthy food options. Following their training, Fellows apply their knowledge during a Community Action Year, collaborating with regional non-profit organizations to promote lasting change. Applications are open until March each year, with the fellowship running from May to October.
