About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship
At the Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Chapmanville, WV, we are dedicated to cultivating a new generation of leaders who are passionate about creating a food system that is socially, environmentally, and economically just. Our program, offered by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, empowers Fellows through a hands-on, six-month training experience at the stunning Allegheny Farm, where they will gain practical knowledge in organic food system education. Participants will engage in diverse activities such as growing and distributing crops on a market-style farm, implementing innovative health care educational sessions, maintaining community gardens, and enhancing food and ecological literacy within local schools. Our goal is to foster access to healthy foods by supporting farmers markets, direct-to-consumer initiatives, and community food coalitions. The Fellowship not only nurtures individual growth but also emphasizes collaboration with regional non-profits during the Community Action Year, allowing Fellows to apply their skills within their local communities. We believe in making this transformative opportunity accessible and do not charge tuition for the Farm and Food Study, encouraging applicants to apply by March for the program that runs from May to October.
